Fringe Review: Sev

Charles Ross has performed his One Man Star Wars show over 1200 times for six years around the world. He's also well known for his One Man Lord of the Rings. He is now ready for something different, but he doesn't stray too far away from boyhood fantasy in this one man production.

Sev is the story of a sixteen year-old boy who imagines wild flights of heroic fantasy while at his part-time job as a 7-11 clerk. Along with his friend and co-worker Tina, they try to survive the world of retail while trying to break into acting.

While there is a lot of comedy about customers and fantasy swordplay which was expected, there was also a sweetness and almost autobiographical honesty to this coming of age story. The script reminds me of the movie Juno as it immerses you totally into a small town Nelson, BC teenager's world.

The kid is all right. A new direction and sweaty good time for Charles Ross.

4/5
